As a matter of fact, no, I am not sure anymore! :D It’s exciting!

(Or rather, I wasn’t ‘sure’ it wasn’t in the first place, I just doubted it; I hadn’t been led to believe it was one of the more likely options yet, or that this meta-zapping was going to be plot-important, much more than a gag.)

Before the hiatus, in response to something I said about the canonspace-zapping feeling kind of Muse-of-Spacey, vacantvisionary mentioned a possibility they’d been dropping in my askbox on occasion: that if the plothole cursor were indeed half of that AURYN-alike amulet inside the Lollipop, the ‘ultimate juju’ that was Yaldabaoth’s Boon of Resurrection in a different form, possibly the white half -

it has some magical properties, bUt nothing too fancy on its own.

…then touching it in its raw form without the candy shell Calliope’s had may have given John something of an overdose of his aspect, Breath, although not the full, combined mega-overdose Jane received. The idea that an Heir of Breath, his role supercharged slightly beyond his control, might find himself detached from grounding in reality (Blood), delivered to various locations, almost “everywhere at once” like the wind but with a hard time staying pinned in any particular location.

Here was my response, quoted:

You’ve mentioned that possibility before, but… I’m… still not quite sure about that. Breath is as much about the journey as the destination… hn.

I mean, let’s see… Breath is path, quest, delivery, deliverance, freedom, flight, and detachment from reality. John certainly seems *detached from reality*, moved around in ways that would make the most seasoned space player dizzy, but it doesn’t strike me as being much “like the wind”. Still, it sort of fits, so I can’t really rule it out for you, and it has been strange that all of the power effects so far have been blue, his color.

So, could be. Maybe; we can’t quite tell yet.

It was always at least plausible, even the manner in which it was out of his hands fitting that of his role: An Heir of Breath theoretically invites change in Breath and invites change through Breath, but is thus (also theoretically) vulnerable to being invited to change in HIS Breath, flying off in practically any direction given to him by others except “stay on the ground”. So, swept up by Breath, he’d be delivered randomly for a little while. It sorta worked.

Now that he seems to have shown up behind Dave, though - almost as if he WANTED to! - this is becoming a much more likely possibility! As he slowly gains control, the idea is that John could harness the raw concept of Breath to ignore obstacles and barriers altogether, directing himself - while maybe not as much through Time, as when most overdosed - all amidst and throughout the plot and people with whom he’s connected, delivered between people and places almost at will! His friends and bonds especially, once he manages to control the ability… just as the Mail carries things and people between each other through the Breeze, meandering long and winding paths across the ether, and finally grounding itself in reality only at the start and end - where Blood ties each person to a grounded address with a little red flag on a mailbox.

Essentially, when he was zapping everywhere before? That was practically a gag; we couldn’t tell if it was merely a meta joke from reaching through the comic. But now THIS, the way this zapping is coincidentally helping him so much right now, hiding him from Jade and popping him into situations that matter (eg. not Caliborn, where his interference is still mostly as much of meta gag as Caliborn’s narrative control) long after we thought it was over… now it has much more plot relevance, and a systemic explanation is warranted!

John acting as a slightly-overdosed Heir of Breath from sticking his hand in half of the Ultimate Artifact, slowly regaining control, is now a much more plausible interpretation of all this than it used to be. And if this is a realization of his role, it’s kind of funny…

ONLY HIS GHOST WILL SHOW UP NOW AND THEN. IN A BLURRY FLASH OF LIGHT. TO HAUNT ME PERIODICALLY THROUGHOUT HISTORY. (BUT I WILL SAY MORE ABOUT THAT LATER.)

…because if you put it together with his ability to become intangible, he’s literally become a ghostyTrickster!
